I adored Brave Girl, Quiet Girl

An unlikely relationship forms between Brooke, the mother of a toddler that is taken during a carjacking and Molly, a homeless teen who finds the toddler and protects her. The story is told in alternating narration between Brooke and Molly. It’s a fast-paced read as these flawed characters unfold throughout the chapters. It’s a great lesson on bias towards homeless and judgements made between mothers and daughters.

3.5 stars! Man, I wish we could give half stars on here :(

This story is told dually from Brooke and Molly's perspective. Brooke was carjacked one night while her baby girl, Etta was in her car seat. Etta was left in her car seat on the side of the road and she was found shortly after by a homeless sixteen year old, Molly. You get to read about how these two characters lives intertwine by one horrific experience and the aftermath of it all.

This was a good story with a good ending. But for a couple reasons toward the end of the book, I realized maybe it wasn't for me. It's crazy to think that some stories like these actually aren't stories at all. That people are actually living this.

This was my first Catherine Ryan Hyde book. Slightly underwhelmed? But it was a good story.

I enjoyed this book. Made me think about first impressions and how we judge people.

A great book about misfortune, acceptance, false suppositions because of how a person appears and the expectations we project on them due to how they look. This book was really close to a 5 for me.

Brave Girl, Quiet Girl is an emotional story that will crush your heart before it's over, from the gut-wrenching scene where Brooke loses her daughter in a carjacking to the frightening life of 16 year-old Molly, living on the streets. This story will make feel all the feels.

Brooke and Molly are from different worlds. They have nothing in common, other than the love they both have for a sweet little girl, Etta. Is this love enough to overcome the divide or will it be what brings them together?

All of Catherine's books are full of interesting, memorable characters—people who have troubles. But they are also full of good and caring people. In that crazy world, somehow they find each other and discover that they have something in common and can help each other. That is the beauty of her books, people helping people.

Catherine is a must read author for me and her books are never a disappointment. They are wonderful, character driven stories that can teach us all lessons. Brave Girl, Quiet Girl is a beautiful story that will stay with me and I will be thinking about Brooke, Molly, and Etta for a long time. I loved this story and highly recommend it.

This was my first book by Catherine Ryan Hyde and I really enjoyed Brave Girl, Quiet Girl. This turned out to be a story that gave you all the feels. Brooke is a single mom with a small child, Etta. She is not in the best place in life. Brooke is living with her mom and feeling down on herself after her divorce. One day, she is carjacked and the thief gets away with her mom's Mercedes and her daughter in the backseat. In comes Molly, a homeless teen, who finds Etta still strapped in her car seat on street in West LA. And from there is a 24 hour survival for Molly and Etta, trying not to succumb to the dangers on the LA streets. Hyde shows you the side of living on the streets and what put poor Molly there. This world needs more people like Brooke and Molly!
Overall, This book is well written and keeps you interested from page one to the end. I will be recommending this book to others and will be looking for other works by Catherine Ryan Hyde. Special thanks NetGalley, Lake Union Publishing, and Catherine Ryan Hyde for the advance digital copy in exchange for my honest opinion.
