Despite the outdated style, Donne is a genius. One can feel God's immanence; Donne does not isolate Him in His transcedence.

I had to read this book for my university course on John Donne and although poetry is definitely not my favourite genre, I liked this collection.
Having also studied the author’s life and his way of writing, made me appreciate it even more.
What really got to me, was the new and different way he wrote women. He didn’t idealise her the same way the Petrarchan poets did. Sure, everything she did was based on his actions and his perception of her and she was never given a voice...
Still... progress?

um it was cute poems about love and sex and I really appreciate poetry especially older poetry but I cannot wrap my brain around the idea that some of this is deemed legendary or classic so I LIKED IT but nothing wowed me

Three stars for the commentary articles in the back. Just don't really like Donne. Sorry but I don't particularly enjoy reading graphic sexually derogatory depictions of women.
