This book is as whimsical and magical as Mary Blair herself.

I don't know if I'm in the minority of people who value the aesthetics of Disney's animated movies from the 50s and 60s over today but I think the artwork from the time is undervalued and overlooked. Ten or fifteen years ago, biographies of women forgotten by history were much harder to find. I was so blown away by the beautiful artwork in this book and by Blair's story.

The illustrations in this picture book would make Blair proud. This book is such a celebration of one of my favorite artists.

I have long admired Mary Blair's work at Disney. I also remember the books she illustrated in the Little Golden Books series. Mary Blair had such a unique style, it's often easy to recognize her work. The book delves just a bit deeper into her background, letting the reader know where some of her inspiration came from. I particularly enjoyed Lee's illustrations. They are definitely reminiscent of Blair's work which made it equally fun to view.
