Dark, honest, irrevocably true to the authors thoughts. So many relatable essays that felt unique and ballsy to share. Great read! Love Melissa’s voice and tone here.

just look at the list of trigger warnings before even thinking about reading this.

i loved how open and raw these essays are but if you like clean and tidy books with pretty things and happy endings you’re going to hate it.

God, Broder is such a visceral and vulnerable writer. She takes the human experiences that we tuck away into ourselves and flings back the curtains, saying “yeah that’s gross but so what?” And I think that is what makes her writing so fun and affirming to read. I felt like it got a bit repetitive at the end, though my favorite essay was definitely “Under the anxiety is sadness but who would go under there.” Also Milk Fed is just on a totally different plane from this one, so it’s hard to compare. I don’t think everyone would love this (between the sometimes brutal/gross content and her casual voice) but I feel like this provided so much opportunity to reflect and giggle a lot.
