I really enjoyed this dark and reflective little story. I'll be looking forward to reading more of Rios de la Luz.

I loved this book so much! This book definitely packs so much for its size but I think I got everything I needed from it as far as story line. This book reads more like memories in a style that is very much like poetry and prose.
This book is truly about finding joy all while still healing and dealing with daunting memories that haunt us. Though the book mentions the concept of “water witches,” I can’t help but feel like that is a symbolism for something and not so much literal being a “water witch.” As the two main characters share memories of their most terrifying pasts, they are also learning to readapt and find joy amidst the trauma. Water is adaptable to any surface and I can help but relate the characters in this sense, as two women who are learning to readapt amidst their trauma.
Or maybe I’m just reading too much into it lol still a great read for me!

"I wanted to rock back and forth in her lap, but she was more than a ghost, she was veins of lightning, she was white swirling clouds, she was pollen sticking to the legs of honeybees."
Itzá blew me away! I'm so in love with the stunningly poetic, savory storytelling from Rios de la Luz.
This novella about generations of water witches was haunting, beautiful and painfully raw. It was simply magical.
OOF.
I highlighted so many passages that touched my soul. Itzá has become a new favorite!
"We are not defined by our traumas."
