An inspirational read, geared towards young adults. Well written, powerful and touching. A brilliant read.

This book was amazing. It was recommended to me by my professor for my special needs education class, and I immediately had to read it. Though Auggie doesn't have special needs, he is certainly different. It is so cool to see it through his eyes, his families eyes, and the eyes of strangers. All of the children were very believable, and I'm glad I picked up the newer edition with The Julian Chapters. It was nice to get some closure with him, though I still have some questions.
What a wonderful book :)

I picked up this book because it's being made in to a movie. I always try to read books before I see the movie, because the book is usually better. Anyway...this is a very touching story about friendship and kindness and love. I loved it very much.

I listened to the audio of this one, and I'd recommend it! Breakdown:
Plot: August was born with a chromosomal abnormality that affects how his face looks. This book is about him and his family as he starts in a private school after being homeschooled, and follows him throughout the year as he deals with the reactions of the kids and adults in a school situation.
Language: This is a middle-grade novel, so obviously not much to worry about with language. There were various uses of God's name in vain, no cuss words.
Sexual Content: August's older sister "long" kisses a boy. That's it.
Spiritual: There was some spiritual/philosophical stuff in this book that is probably good for parents to be aware of if their kids read it - most notably some talk about Heaven and one of August's friends theory of reincarnation (August says he likes her theory). Worth a discussion for those of us who are Christian parents. Some misapplication of quotes from the Bible (like August's "precept" at the end of the book).
Other: Some mean comments from different bullies, including one comment from a kid who said he'd "kill himself" if he looked like August. Later August and this boy are reconciled and laughing about how they'd "kill themselves" if they were so-and-so. I didn't like that.
Overall: I really enjoyed this book overall! The story was sweet and full of those bittersweet moments that make you choke up a bit. I liked how it gave the perspectives of different characters besides just August's too. I would just say to know your kid before you hand them this book, in case some of the bullying comments would affect them negatively (especially the comments about suicide, which were cringe-worthy to me as a parent).
