A beautiful masterpiece. Truly one of the best books ever written.

This book was so interesting. There are so many deep quotes, and the whole book is told in such a lilting, detached way that it will make you question everything. Our own self-perception,religion, the truth of goodness and evil, and so much more. The characters are so intricate, no one is truly good, but it presents humanity as it actually is. It is somewhat of a difficult read, as the language is odd and detached, and also because the book skips time, but it’s definitely worth the read. It’s a thinking book all the way through. It is not all like the musical though so be warned if that’s why you picked it up, as was my case. It is extremely dark, even sexual at points but overall it’s a good read.

Disappointing, boring and pointless. Tried to be philosophical, raising Life's Big Questions like "What is evil?" "What is the nature of the soul?" etc. Definitely lost on me.

What. Was that. It had so much potential—- I love the Broadway show “Wicked” and thought for sure the book that inspired it would be great. No no, I was wrong. The musical pulled what was good out of it. There were bits and pieces of the story that were ok, but it was muddled by all of the other stuff. The only developed character was Elphaba, everyone else was quite flat. The language was unnecessarily flowery, to the point where I had to reread because I had no clue what just happened. The timeline shifts were jarring. The book was unnecessarily crude. And there were so many confusing questions left unanswered.. which maybe they are answered in future books in the series, but sometimes it seemed like the author would pop in an outlandish statement just for fun to make you confused and then move on. Also, I did not realize that this is mainly a political fiction book which is never a genre I gravitate towards so that was a disappointment— but that was my own fault for not researching more about the genre and main plot of the book.

If you love this book, great. I am not in that club.
