I found this book very interesting, and I think some of the exercises within will be useful in the future.
This book is a snoooozefest. Unfortunately I had to read it for school, and thank god it’s over.
informative
The beginning of this book was absolutely fantastic and really interesting, although it took me a long time to read because I found myself needing to put the book down for a few minutes to really understand what each chapter was saying. As the book progressed, however, I found it a little harder to follow, almost as though it was an entirely different concept. Although I followed logically Dr. Davidson's thought progression, I found myself wondering if meditation was the right area to look at for emotional analysis (this may be because I have never tried to participate in meditation; this book has made me want to), but this may have been because I was on a plane while reading most of it and that made it harder to concentrate or test out some of Dr. Davidson's ideas. Overall, I found the book to be fascinating, and I hope to learn more about this topic in the future.
This book is a mix of science, psychology, personal history, and pracitical guidebook. Davidson explains his own journey to and through studying emotions as brain based. He also illuminates how his findings can and should affect others. The book engages the reader with assessments, clearly labeled diagrams, and personal anecdotes, yet it also delves into some history and plenty of research.
I'd recommend it for anybody interested in the intersection of mindfulness, emotions, and science.

A solid read on neuroplasticity. It's written in a very accessible way. I docked a star because I think the solutions/exercises the author presents will leave the reader wanting more.
I devour books on brain & behavior. This was a delectable read. I need the neuroscience/neurobiology-rich first half again and again to absorb the latest research and refresh my memory on cortical structures, but man, this was a great read.
MY God this book was so amazingly interesting! It provided such insight into the way the mind works and how the patterns in our brain help shape us into the people we are. This took me quite a while to read because it is a heavy book; it requires a lot of focus (at least for me it did) and I found I had to really sit and think about what I was reading. It was like a step down from reading a textbook. There were plenty of facts and spatterings of humour.
It was good for me to read as I am studying nursing so a knowledge of the brain is helpful.I really enjoyed it and whilst I think it was interesting and intriguing, I am in no rush to recommend it to people as it takes so SO much effort to read.

A mixture of self-help and science, I enjoyed the latter part of this book very much and think the theories and studies are quite fascinating. The meditation advice gets a little tiresome but I still recommend this book to anyone intrigued by the working of our brains.
A buttload of great information about the plasticity of the brain & how our emotional style shapes it, with great studies and overwhelming evidence to support it (my favorite parts of this book). 4 stars because it was a bit long-winded at times, certain paragraphs were repeated when topics overlapped. Overall a very complex and interesting read
