Not as good as the first one. I felt there could have been more of a plot to it. However, the kids loved my pirate voice and were happy with the ending. On to #3!

Now that Scieszka has established his three main characters he can focus more time on the setting and history of his story and "The Not-So-Jolly Roger" has some nice details about the real-life Blackbeard that are based in historical fact. It feels like each of the first two books could have been longer, but the epilogue that offers some facts on Blackbeard and the fate of Joe, Sam, and Fred was a nice touch.

This is my first Time Warp Trio book. First impression: this is Magic Tree House without the girls. But I'm a girl, and I like this much more than Magic Tree House. Surprised there was so much murder and mayhem in a chapter book, but then again, it was all very pirate related. The boys meet Captain Blackbeard who they find to be as ruthless as history and movies have portrayed him.

This hilarious audiorecording contains two books in the Time Warp Trio series. I would definitely recommend these books to young readers looking for something entertaining to read. The premise of the series is that there are three boys who have found a magic book that takes them back in time. In the first book they go back to medieval times and hang out with King Arthur, Merlin, and the gang. In the second book, they go back to pirate days and meet Bluebeard and his crew. Hilarity ensues.
The audiorecording is awesome. Narrator William Dufris does a great job with the voices. They're all very distinct (even the voices of the three boys) and sound very cartoon-like. It's sure to appeal to younger school age kids. So far only the first two books have been recorded, but I'm crossing my fingers that Dufris records more in the series.
Readalike suggestions: The "Heroic Misadventures of Hiccup Horrendous Haddock III" series contains some of the same madcap off-the-wall humor as the Time Warp Trio (though the books are longer). "The Magic Tree House" series features two kids traveling back in time.

Cheesy, easy read. I think this would be a great first chapter book--My 9-year-old was a bit old for it. We used it as a read aloud and it only took two bedtimes. Wish he would've agreed to read it in 1st or 2nd grade.
