Just read the entire over lunch hour, and did not regret it. (Though I may never be able to articulate exactly why I loved it so much...)

This was possibly one of the most depressing books I have read in a long time. I mean I don’t know if I didn’t connect with it because I never did the leaving for college thing or the potential break-up because of distance thing, but Clare depressed the crap out of me. She was such doom and gloom through just about every page. She over reacted to everything and expected Aidan to have all the answers and it really got on my nerves. I had to remind myself a few times that I was reading about teenagers which is not something I enjoy when I read a book. I prefer to just read it and not worry about ages but I couldn’t do it with this book. The side characters were the bright spot for me (and the end which I wish there was more of in the book). They were way more interesting and weren’t wrapped up in themselves so much. I mean I was 50% in and *I* wanted to break-up with Clare. I should have trusted my gut when I saw the mixed reviews but I didn’t and found out the hard way that this book was not for me.

“Maybe the world isn't full of signs so much as it's full of people trying to use whatever evidence they can find to convince themselves of what they hope to be true.”
I've professed my love for Jennifer E. Smith's YA books for a long time now, and I can say, without hesitation, that Hello, Goodbye, and Everything In Between is far and away my favorite book she has written, and has upped the bar in terms of how young adult romance can be done.
The story takes place over an evening where two high school sweethearts, about ready to head off to college, are ending their relationship so that they don't have to continue it long distance. This isn't something they necessarily want to do, but the two are spending their last night together revisiting some of their favorite memories and times together. Things don't quite go as planned, and it, of course, gets complicated, but the story is about those highs and lows in all relationships.
Why is this so great? There are so many reasons to consider. The characters are really likable, the story is not a new one but still feels new and fresh (the analogy I made initially was Daniel Handler's Why We Broke Up, but this is much more sincere). The entire thing is so relatable that it's hard to read in a way - you know what you want to happen, you see the writing on the wall, and yet. And yet. It's certainly a tug-at-the-heartstrings tearjerker but doesn't feel emotionally manipulative either. The narrative itself feels almost like a documentary in a sense, and that's just really great.
I don't have a negative thing to say about this at all. It's pitch-perfect, and it's something that I hope anyone and everyone who reads YA finds a way to enjoy. It's so really well done, and that's with my sky-high expectations in place already. Highly recommended.

The thing with HELLO GOODBYE AND EVERYTHING IN BETWEEN is that it deals with a turning point in a couple’s life. Quick. Ask yourself: When was the last time you were in a relationship and you felt like…Is this it? Can we make it? Maybe, we should just stop altogether.
And that’s basically where this book revolves in. You see, Aidan and Clare are about to enter college, and for a while, they’ve been debating whether they should stay together or not–until they’ve come to the conclusion that maybe, they should just break up for good. After all, it’s not every day that you find high school couples who survive college together; they had to think logically...

I wish my ONE day could be as interesting as Claire and Aidan
A bittersweet lovely story wrapped up in an easy to read package. I felt nostalgic for my own teen years; even my own seemingly (at the time) devastating breakups.
This was a fun read. It was a story that didn't just end things, but left things open for later. To come back to after. It was a story of one night, the night before Aidan and Clare head off in separate directions for colleges on opposite sides of the country. A lot happens in that night to test their relationship as they decide what to do. How to leave things off. I loved it, but just in a read in a day type of books that puts in a great mood.
