This was a great read while travelling. Good plot, interesting characters. I'll be reading more of this series.

I really liked the characters--and knowing that this is just an introduction to them and I can know more about them in all there other cases was intriguing. I was not ready for the ending--though it seemed like I should have seen it coming--I'm on the naive side.

I'm not sure if I really liked this or not. The mystery was compelling and that was part of the fun. Her female character is very cliche (ugly girl who hates the world). I was disappointed. I'd hoped to read a female character who was brilliant with not so many "issues". I did like how Ms George captured the English accent and rhythm; it was enjoyable to read that. Aside from my disappointment with the female character, it was an interesting and it was fun trying to figure out the mystery.

I gobbled this book up. So much fun. Wonderful writing, well-drawn characters, engaging from start to finish.

Slow-paced then the last few chapters are horrific. It's hard to warm up to the main characters. Still, I'm curious how Lynly and Havers grow to work together in later books.

Fun first instalment to the Thomas Lynley series. No big surprised but enjoyable enough to read, despite the topics.

First book in a very long running series. I liked it. I particularly enjoy George's description of the English countryside. I also like the partnership of Lynley and Havers.
