Eigenlijk wel drie en een halve ster. Een volkomen absurd boek, die echt talloze stijlen probeert te combineren. Van een procedurele detective (met incompetente bazen bij de politie) tot een Sherlock holmes achtig karakter (die hier niet helemaal tot z'n recht komt). Van een soort fantasy/sci-fi boek tot een bijna horror-thriller. Een enorme hoop moorden, die gerelateerd zijn aan een misterieuze groep monsters. Gevalletje verstand op 0, maar het leest hartstikke lekker weg.

Lubię wygrzebywać z biblioteki takie serie. Choć wydaje się, że Relikwiarz (a wcześniej także Relikt) będzie rasowym kryminałem (w końcu mamy i policjanta i agenta FBI, a także wspomagających ich naukowców), seria o Pendergaście ma w sobie wiele z horroru. Autorzy sprawnie wykorzystują nie tylko legendy miejskie czy teorie spiskowe, żeby wzbudzić w nas dreszcze niepokoju i ekscytacji. Sprawnie posługują się intrygą, odkrywając powoli kolejne karty. Wspaniale też odmalowana jest perspektywa bohaterów: jak odbierają siebie nawzajem, czego się boją i z czym chcą się zmierzyć. Jeśli traficie kiedyś na cykl o Pendergaście, a lubicie horrory, koniecznie zafundujcie sobie lekturę. Ja właśnie idę do biblioteki po kolejne części.

Excellent!! I think Relic (the first book) was okay, but I remember not loving it. This one, however, was a much more impressive showing. The setting - the tunnels under NYC - was something I've always found fascinating. The characters were likable (except when they weren't supposed to be). The plot moved briskly but didn't feel forced. I did see parts of the ending coming, but that didn't hurt the story.
