Good underlying story

I like the underlying story. Something has happened and the earth no longer has fire, so anything that requires fire or combustion to operate doesn't exist anymore. People have perished, it's the wild west once again, but world wide. The female main character is Ranger, and honestly I kept forgetting Ranger was a girl and kept trying to remember which guy was ranger every time her name was used. Through a series of events Ranger ends up with three of the four of her guys. She is much too quick to forgive and trust in my opinion considering how they came to be together and buys into everything waaaaaaay too fast. Their relationships are pretty instant, and unfortunate laziness that a lot of paranormal writers tend to take. Instead of developing the characters and a connection it's instant connection and within days they are in love because they are fated mates. (Heavy eye roll). Once they are mates they jump more than bunny rabbits in pretty boring and repetitive sex which fortunately just peeters out into us being told she is having sex every five seconds. Seriously she would be raw from all of the sex she is suppose to be having even g shifters in this universe heal quickly (it's never addressed here. I assume they heal quickly seeing as one of them was a bloody mess and then it's never mentioned again). Oh and at one point she says "now" and they all immediately come at once. I think I legitimately injured my eyes rolling them at that one. We get some world building but not a lot of character building. We know that everyone has some significant loss and a glimpse at each guy"s past, one to two paragraphs at most, but we don't really have ages for anyone. We know two of the guys were married and one has two kids on top of being a biomechanical engineer so I'm putting him in his 30s, the other married guy and the one who was a navy seal (who btw would still be trying to hold the government together because a deal wouldn't just abandon his post) are probably mid to late 20s. The last guy is a hedge fund manager, but comes from a wealthy family, so at bare minimum, using family connections, he could be 22, but more likely is late 20s or early 30s like the other guys. Then you have Ranger who tell us she isn't old enough to drink under the old laws so something under 21, but we don't know how old other than the world has been in chaos for five years and she was old enough to be the one to run with her two younger siblings when disaster struck, but she could have been five then for all we know. There are times that she is written to come across as really up in and it makes me uncomfortable because I kept pegging her around 17 and these guys are obviously much older, so there was a creep factor when they started banging her every which way to Sunday. Additonaly the 2-3 situations created to put her in danger and.force them to realize their bond just weren't very well written, there was no real.suspense and the one in New Vegas just feels odd and out of place as does the need to try and fit in a my rich boyfriend took me shopping and bought me clothes in this new dystopian world. So that said, I'll stick around until at least book 2.

Good idea, slow writing

I liked the plot of this book. The ideas are all there but it was too slow to keep me interested fully. The group is great, I just don't know how I really felt about it. Hopefully the second book will be more captivating.

No strong representation of diverse characters or minority identities.

Quick Take: A post-apocalyptic paranormal reverse harem romance with potential but it was a downhill disaster after the not-so-cute meet-cute (ahem, abduction).
