I tracked this down in anticipation of my trip to Barcelona this summer. It was good enough that I'll give Montalban another chance. The characters were unique, and they spanned a broad spectrum. The detective story was something between entertaining and unusual. The social and geographical depictions of Barcelona, specifically Montalban's perspective on urban renewal, were - as predicted - priceless. But the food - the cooking and restaurant scenes - were mouth-watering! (Shades of Peter Mayle in Provence!)
