75% of these are huge stretches on being even related to their chosen horror movie and all of them are weak queer navelgazing.

There's not a single standout because strangely they’re all the written with a similar cadence.

I will say the low-point was definitely the story where the author admits they never watched the original The Blob in an essay about The Blob and in which they shit-talk the original The Blob.

Laziest writing I’ve seen in a while. Remember just because something means well doesn’t mean it’s done well.

A full collection of interesting work. Some stronger than others of course, but nothing here that didn’t convey an interesting perspective or relay something really personal in a way that still engaged with the films or genre as a whole. I did balk at the lack of intellectual rigor of the writer who analyzed the newer Blob while bragging they’d never seen the original, but if you wanna embarrass yourself in the permanent record, go ahead, I guess. Otherwise maybe the most thought-provoking essay in the collection. The one on The Birds also excellent.

What an incredible exploration of queerness. It was so deep and insightful. It gave horror movies depth and nuance that I never would have thought of. The essays were full of vulnerability and I feel privileged to have gotten this glance inside their thoughts and experiences.

I absolutely LOVED this collection of stories from some of the most phenomenal writers that have ever graced the page! I am a champion of queer horror and this collection solidified my absolute love and devotion to the genre. Witty, insightful, and deeply queer, what is not to love?
