If you like it, you'll love it. If it's not your cup of tea,  you'll know early and can (and should) stop.

I'm not sure exactly what I expected, but angels, vampires, a serial killer, and voice powers a la Dune's Bene Gesserit were not on the list. This is a wild first volume and I immediately ordered the next book in the series. The Sandman influence is palpable, but this story stands firmly on its own two feet. If it were a movie, it would be a screenplay written by Neil Gaiman based on a story by Stephen King, directed by Quentin Tarantino.

This is the first time I've wished for a half-star system, because 4.5 stars sounds a lot more correct than 4 flat.

Characters not interesting to me, too grimdark, art not appealing.
