Having read and reviewed The Near Witch before reading this short story, I feel grateful to have continued the series. I felt The Near Witch was lacking character development, but this was certainly attained here. This story improved my interest and affection for the central character, as well as introducing the reader to the different fantasy settings V.E. Schwab can write so well.

I really related to this, and I thought it enhanced the story of The Near Witch, which to me means it was a good prequel.
