Normally when I finish a book, I immediately write my review, that way everything is fresh including my feelings. But with Worth the Risk by K. Bromberg, I found myself having to sit and think on it. I have been a fan of Bromberg’s since I first read Colton’s book, so naturally I couldn’t wait for this one as with everything she has released since. There was something different here though that I couldn’t quite put my finger on, but I think for me it was a character thing. While I liked this book, I didn’t love it.

After messing up at work, Sidney finds herself heading back to her hometown to prove herself. If she helps save a failing magazine, she will earn a position at her dream job. While the magazine she is tasked with saving is one that doesn’t interest her at all, she comes up with an idea to run a hot dad contest. When one of the front runners of the contest turns out to be someone that she knows from when she was younger, she never expects for him to have quite the reaction he does. Grayson remembers Sidney and his ex is the perfect example of why he doesn’t want anything to do with women, let alone a woman like Sidney since they are just alike. But as the contest progresses, both Sidney and Grayson realize that neither are the same person they used to be. Can Grayson let go of his past and can Sidney embrace a different future than she originally planned for herself and risk it all for a chance at a love together?

As I said before, a big problem for me was that I struggled with the characters. Grayson had been hurt by his ex, and at first glance Sidney had a lot of similarities to her. There were even times that it appeared she was proving it to him. However, Sidney was also very different than his ex and very different than the girl she once was, and it seemed that no matter what she did, Grayson refused to believe it. He was so frustrating and the constant push and pull with him was more than I could take. It got to the point that I was just over it and him and no matter the good moments that he had, I felt like he was just too immature and blinded by his past and bitterness. Sidney had moments where I really liked her, and she also had moments that I struggled with her as well as Grayson. I thought that she was sweet and kind, but she frustrated me with her actions quite a bit as well. These two had chemistry and a connection that felt real, yet there were too many hang-ups for them to ever seem to really get it right and It got to the point that I stopped caring and didn’t believe that they would last long term because of the back and forth.

Overall, there were a lot of things that I liked here and as much as I struggled with the characters, this book did have a lot of really good parts. Grayson’s son made the book and I loved him so much. He definitely seemed to be the mature one here a lot of the time, and I think that goes to show just how much I felt like the adult characters needed some help. Luke was the highlight and I wish that Grayson and Sidney had been able to live up to that as well. I am still a huge fan of Bromberg’s and I definitely recommend her books. This one just wasn’t my favorite of hers, but it won’t stop me from picking up her future releases.

What a great way to round out a series!

This was such a great story! Grayson and Sidney don’t look like they would work on paper, but the author did such a great job giving these characters dimension and let us see they were more than what they look like on paper. Nothing is hotter than a single dad, Sidney would have to be stupid to not see that, and she’s not stupid.

I throughly enjoyed this story, I really cared about this characters and you will too! Do not miss out on this series!

Amazing!! Bromberg has gone it again!! Gray's Story was nothing like I expected! He was infuriating and made me Crazy but I just wanted to help fix him! Sidney is so unprepared for Gray and the effect he has on her! This book was Red Hot!! I loved their hate/love relationship and how they both tried to ignore their feelings, it made the fall so much sweeter! Gray was sexy and had so much pent up anger due to unresolved feelings towards his past. I wanted to shake him so man times throughout the story for his stubbornness. Sydney was in new territory, she has voiced her opinion many times on how she feels about children and her future. So it was great seeing the characters change in the story. These two opposites were quite a pair, just when you think we have a truce, everything comes crashing down. This book was just as emotional as the previous two but for a whole new reason! I loved Luke, he melted my heart and made me hope! I laughed uncontrollably so many times I had tears in my eyes. Bromberg really hit the nail on the head when it comes to parenting and the curious minds of children! I was also excited to have the other Malone brothers and their spouses staring the shit pot throughout the story. I feel like I'm a part of them, hit with every emotion right alongside the characters. This book shows you just how beautiful love can be if you just take the risk! I love it! You will fall in love the the last Malone brother! Don't pass this up! It's a wonderful heartwarming read that will set you on fire and leave you wanting more!

Worth the Risk is a sweet, sexy, heartwarming enemies to lovers romance with all the feels. I've wanted this book from the very beginning of this series. I mean c'mon. A swoony single dad who is hot enough to be included in a Hot Dad competition and he also happens to be a rescue pilot...yes, please!! I was not disappointed. Worth the Risk is a good example of why K. Bromberg is one of go to authors. I absolutely LOVED the narration. As always Zachary Webber and Grace Grant are magnificent at bringing the characters to life. It's definitely worth a listen.

The characters in Worth the Risk were great (especially sweet little Luke). The connection between Sidney and Grayson was electric. Even when they fought you could tell that there was a spark. The back and forth push and pull between them was just so good. K. Bromberg did a great job of building the tension.

One negative for me however was regarding Grayson. I loved him, loved how much he care for his little boy. But...there were times that he frustrated me. I understand that he was hurt by a heartless person but some of the ways he dealt with his feelings annoyed the heck out of me. I could have done with a little less of his indecisiveness. That being said, none of this kept me from wanting more of the story.

I highly recommend this book - this series. I can't get enough of those Malone men!!

I really wanted to love Grayson but he was irrationally difficult and insulting to Sidney. I wish Sidney would’ve put Grayson in his place more frequently. We all know he had baggage but he’d also had 8 years to deal with it. I rated it 3 stars because there was a definite connection with lots of steam. Plus Sidney really did treat everyone so well. I never got the impression she was a spoiled brat like Grayson kept accusing her of. I also enjoyed the ending. Side note, the book was a bit too long.

Worth The Risk by K. Bromberg

Narrated by Zachary Webber and Grace Grant
4.5 Stars

Contemporary Romance. 3rd standalone in a series. Stands Well Alone.

I picked up Worth The Risk by K. Bromberg not realizing it was the third in the Everyday Heroes series about the Malone Brothers. The first, Cuffed, about a cop, the second, Combust, about a Firefighter, and the third, Worth The Risk, is about a rescue pilot. I feel like it should have been called Rotor or Chopper and have a shirtless guy to go with the first two, but it was actually the first two books that didn’t match their covers, plus this title was so perfect here (I found it it was actually originally titled Cockpit). This ‘series’ isn’t really marketed as such because each of these stories stands very well alone. But they are all SO GOOD, you should definitely check them all out.
“Not all risks are bad things.”

I admit it. I have a weakness for single dad books, and I love any books with kids. Grayson is the single dad of 8-year-old Luke. He is having a rough time at work because the rescue pilot is grounded for taking too many risks to save people. This just shows he is such a good guy; he knows he is risking his career and his life but saving lives means more to him. It’s ‘worth the risk’.

Sidney’s father owns a conglomerate of magazines. Sidney wants to be editor of one of the fashion magazines, but her father sends her back to her small hometown to work on a family magazine of all things. Like, PARENTING. Something Sidney is not interested in. But working on the Hot Dad contest for the magazine doesn’t seem so bad. Grayson is the hottest of the bunch by far, and Sidney wants him to represent, but Grayson’s brothers entered him and he wants nothing to do with it. Even more so when he finds out Sidney is involved.

Luke's mom was one of the rich kids as well as Sidney in high school. They all ignored Grayson when they came to the diner he worked at. So after the mom took off and left Luke motherless, Grayson became super careful about who is around his kid. And as hot as Sidney is, he was determined to hate her because of who she hung out with in high school.
"It’s a bad sign when you want to fuck the person you have determined you hate."

Sidney is determined to do well at her job, and Grayson refusing to send his photos and bio to the magazine is causing issues. But she doesn’t give up on him or his photos.
“I’m fighting for you, Grayson. Is that what you want? I’m fighting for you when she wouldn’t, but I sure as hell won’t compete against your ghosts.”

This was a slow-burn romance that Grayson resisted for a long time, a little too long for me, I got a little frustrated with him judging her from preconceived notions he had in high school.
"You take risks every damn day in your job—you’ve made a name for yourself doing it—and yet, you won’t take a goddamn risk on me, will you?”

Grayson’s son, Luke, really stole the show in this book. He was so sweet and that poor kid just wanted a mom so desperately, my heart was putty for that little boy. So I did understand Grayson’s reluctance to get involved with a woman that his son would latch on to. Especially a woman who is looking to move away and work as a fashion editor, not stay in a small town with a single dad.

Likes:

  • •Once again, K. Bromberg delivers exceptional writing and a story you can’t put down.

  • •I love a single dad story!

  • •Luke, his son, completely stole the show.

  • •How much Sidney grew through the story.

  • •K. Bromberg writes the hottest sex scenes that are never corny or too long.

  • •Tons of emotion, as always in her books.

  • •Visiting with the other Malone brothers.

  • •I loved the way the title tied in with the story.

Dislikes:

  • •How the cover and title don’t match the other two even though they stand alone.

  • •He fought against her for a little too long.

  • •It didn’t have as much humor as the first two.

The Narration:

I love both narrators, but she seemed to read slower than usual in this book and I found I had to try to speed her chapters up more than his, but otherwise, I love them both and they were great for the parts.

The Down & Dirty:

Once again, K. Bromberg delivered a unique, sexy, engaging, and emotional read with Worth The Risk. I love a single dad book and I absolutely fell for Luke, his son. I didn’t realize at first that this is the third of the Malone Brothers books that start with Cuffed and Combust. I loved those two books and this was no different.

Rating: 4.5 Stars, 4.5 Heat

This review was originally posted on Cocktails and Books

I was anxiously awaiting Grayson's story.  I knew it was going to be angsty, but I was curious as to who his HEA would be.

I loved that Grayson and Sidney knew each other.  I even enjoyed the fact that Sidney had an uphill battle with Grayson when it came to proving that not all people who grew up with a privileged life are like his ex.  But it was the chemistry between these two how hard they fought what was so obviously building between them that kept me riveted to my kindle.

Both of the characters had their issues to deal with, plus the added complexity with Grayson's son.  But it became apparent as the two developed a friendship (of sorts) that Sidney was able to adjust her goals and career objectives without pushing everyone away.  Grayson truly had some pretty big demons to get over, but I think he never really got past his own hurt feeling which led to complication in his relationship with women and in the end his son.

K. Bromberg knows how to give readers angst and this book was full of it.  The emotional push and pull between the characters was everything I would expect from this author, peppered with sexy times that have you coming back to her books again and again.

WORTH THE RISK is worth the time.  Definitely pick this one up.
