The official beginning of the Discworld!

If I remember correctly, the first part of the book is quite difficult to read as Pratchett meanders some where between science and fantasy to try and explain the Discworld and the magic involved within in.

But stick with it. Once you are through that initial slog the book is a real pleasure to read and it opens you up to arguably one of the best universes created. It's full of puns, bad jokes and laughs. Described as anti-fantasy, if you love fantasy, then it is in no doubt that you will love this and every succesive Discworld novel.
