Jasmine Warga has this incredible talent for writing characters that feel so real and relateable. Both Cora and Quinn’s stories and perspectives touched my heart as they struggled with situations, fears, and trauma that no middle grader should have to deal with. But this is also where Jasmine Warga excels - she tackles these issues of racism, gun violence, and Islamophobia head on that gives credit to the very real lives of young people in the world today. By not shying away from these topics, while creating these young characters that you can empathize with, Jasmine Warga pulls at your heartstrings and teaches her readers about family, friendship, forgiveness, loss, and the tough conversations and decisions that we must make in order to create a better and safe world.
