Ugh, way too fast-paced for me. Too much going on and not enough time and space to develop any of the random chaos in this book. Nothing made any sense! Nikki is a little "love"-whore, falling in love with two boys pretty much instantly, willing to let them do basically anything they want with her (and yet she is still a virgin? I don't think that I quite believe that). Add to that the fact that they are also, for reasons completely unknown, wholly and totally in love with her back, though neither of them knows a lick about her or her past. Good Lord, why would someone actually publish this crap, let alone write it to begin with?

This was an entertaining foray into the fantasy/horror world of vampires and teenagers. It probably would appeal to people who like Vampire Diaries or maybe Twilight (which I'm not a fan of).

I probably would say it's 2.5 stars, but Goodreads doesn't allow half-star reviews. It was somewhere between "okay" and "I liked it."

The story involves a single mother who moves to a different state with her twin teenage son and daughter. A pretty common trope, I think. They move to a small town on a lake, where they rent a pretty luxurious home, for pretty cheap. Eventually, of course, we learn why the property is so cheap.

Both daughter, Nikki, soon finds a love interest in Duncan, whose single dad runs a boat repair shop on the lake. But one of the locals takes an interest in her . . . a bit too much of one.

Like I said, it's entertaining, but not in my typical wheelhouse, so to speak. I calls itself a "Vampire romance fantasy," and I suppose there was a little romance in it. Not too much to put me off, though. The vampire parts were fun for me.

I was just about to type that I didn't get the connection between the prologue and the actual story. But as I was typing the sentence, it dawned on me. So, yeah. There is a connection.

Anyway. If you like Vampire Diaries or Twilight, you might like this story. As for me, I probably won't be continuing in this series. Too many other books, you know.

Not very impressed. Especially with the way the book left off.

Writing's not terribly exciting, dialogue is weak, and plot is a bit eh.

I was really glad it was a short book, otherwise I wouldn't be able to finish it (I actually contemplated on stopping at 93%, the last 7% was slogged through with much reluctance and annoyance).

SpoilerIt would have been okay if it wasn't about vampires, but about some other night crawler things.

It really bugged me when Abigail said, "If they bite you three times, you've turned into a vampire." Sure each author can have a different take on how one is turned into a vampire, but this was kind of really... lame. Really lame. Almost as bad as sparkling vampires.

That's the amazon address to read the summary. Okay so this book was free on my Kindle and i can see why.

Plot: Twilight + Immoral Series = Blur. This story was mostly a rip off from Twilight but had some elements from Immortal series. The whole story was about a girl, her twin brother, and her mom who move to a new place to get away from a psycho dad. That's the only original thing in there. She meets a boy who instead of working on cars (Jacob) works on boats. Oh how clever. Then there is murders happening and the people have their throats ripped out. Didn't see that coming. Then a boy who is pale and she figures out a vampire. She has a magnetic pull to him and can't help wanting to jump him. So she does. FYI this is for ages 16+. There was no sex but wow it was close. And awkward because i felt she was cheating on boat boy. Just me though. Honestly the story was so silly and such a rip off i spent most of my time laughing at it.

Characters: The main character is Nikki and she is dull, confusing, and apparently the only one who can put two and two together. I didn't mind her at first then as she was like i want boat boy but no! Now i want vampire boy! It got annoying, She feel in love with two people in the matter of like 5 pages. Uh, okay. Nathan, her brother is annoying as i don't know what. He is the stereotype of man. I man, you girl. I master. Then he seems to pimp Nikki off. He's like I'm okay with you dating so and so. Who asked your permission buddy. Duncan is you're all American stereotype guy. And apparently a super good person who stays with his Dad so he won't be lonely. I'm just surprised he didn't turn into a werewolf. Well, there's always book 2. The comes Ethan. Honestly, Ethan is a rapist. Not kidding. He enters Nikki's mind and makes her do 'stuff'. But somehow she loves him and has that special magnetic pull. She trusts him despite him mind raping her and then since he craves her blood so much she lets him have some. Like omg. These people. So if you couldn't tell from this they sound just like Edward, Bella, and Jacob. There even is a vampire daddy where all other vampire children stay with him. Hmmm. Can anyone say Carlisle? And the real characters name is Caleb...yeah.

Writing/Syntax: The syntax was good. Ms. Middleton had not too many errors that i noticed. I just wish the story was more original because she had some pretty good ideas in there.

There is a book 2. I won't be reading it but if you do read it comment below and tell me if she got more original or not. Also there is a book 3 but again i won't be reading it. This book left me severely disappointed. The beginning was great but slowly turned stereotypical, cliche, and a rip off from Twilight. I give it 1 star just because of the good beginning. Comment below with your thoughts and opinions but please no cursing. Younger children might stumble upon my site. Also if you wan me to read a book and review it. My review will be fair and honest. Thanks,
~Cat

I'm not really sure how to describe BLUR. Parts were awkward, parts were cheesy, parts required an eye-roll in exasperation. The dialog seemed forced. I have two brothers and we have never, ever called each other bugger and/or twerp, especially not repeatedly and not at 16 years old. So you want your teenage characters to use curse words but then use childish "terms of endearment"? And how about the use of "jump his bones" and "jump Ethan's bones" a total of five times thorough out the book. Three of those between pages 110 and 116. I don't know any teens who talk like that. I know I didn't, and I know my teenage step-daughters don't and have never heard their friends say that.

The character hormones (I can't even say it was just the teens because the mom was just as bad) were ridiculous. Oh hey, we just met a couple days ago but I LOVE you. No wait, I LOVE this one, no I LOVE this guy, oh hell I don't know I guess I LOVE them both. Been done a million and one times in the past. And the fact that Nikki keeps seeing someone in her bathroom window, but she is on the second floor of the house. How about putting up a curtain or even a sheet?

There were also some weird sentence structures and some missing words. Here are a couple of examples: "I'm hungry, but I don't for what." Missing the word "know". Or this one: "I'll see you at in town." At, it? And how weird is it that the mom has slept away about half of the book, with two "bug bites" on her neck that have swelled up, and has to wear sunglasses even inside the house because her eyes are bothering her but dismisses her ailments, and doesn't seem worried. While I give an 'A' for effort on the plot, I found it lacking and predictable.

I really hate giving negative reviews. Really I do. But considering this book seems to have just as many four and five star reviews as two and three, I think this is another one of those "not every book is for every person" circumstances. At twenty-six chapters, BLUR is a fast read but just not for me.

Spelling errors, the main character is very loose with her affections and there is hardly a storyline going on...I have no desire to continue the series
