seddso's review against another edition
Well it’s hilarious, there’s no doubt. But not a biography. So I’ll come back another time

A lot of it relies on shock humour so if you're not into that, then it's not for you. I see it as Joan poking fun at herself and her public persona as well as taking a few habs.
Moderate: Bullying and Body shaming
Minor: Abandonment, Addiction, Alcohol, Antisemitism, Cancer, Child death, Colonisation, Cultural appropriation, Death, Dementia, Drug use, Eating disorder, Emotional abuse, Fatphobia, Gaslighting, Gore, Grief, Pedophilia, and Racism

I heard Leonard Lopate interview JR and thought I would give the book a try. (I'm trying to read different types of books). Parts of it made me laugh, parts of it made me really uncomfortable. Parts of it made me feel guilty for laughing.

I did laugh out loud at 45% of the book. They say you shouldn't speak ill of the dead so Ill leave it at that.

I loved Joan on Fashion Police but I found this book to be too mean spirited, repetitive and not at all funny. Yawn.

I tried this book because it was a book club selection. I'm not really a memoirs person, so I'm not sure why, but it wasn't good to me. I ended up just moving on to another book. I may try again at another time.
