I wish I'd had a book like this to read when I was 15, it might have opened up some things I kept buried for years longer. A pretty basic and melodramatic plot, a bit predictable maybe, but an enjoyable read that I raced through. And above all I'm just glad there are so many more books like this now that are so much more accessible than 15 years ago.

I had too high expectations for this book, I thought that it was going to be a gay romance for a whole book. But it wasn't, and I am disappointed.

I refuse to support a transphobic author. I thought someone from the LGBTQ community would know better, but I was disappointed. There was one scene in particular where they talked about a trans woman and the way it was written was disgusting. Completely ruined the book for me. One star from me for that.

I initially gave it 5 stars because it was one of my favourite books. I read it when I was at a low point in my life and it made me feel understood. But that's also why I didn't notice the underlying transphobia at first.
