A fairly cute little tale, about a girl that just wants to get the perfect gift for her mother. It didn't actually go where I thought, though! As she goes about the city, asking people if they have a Wonderful Fluffy Little Squishy, all the shop owners give her something which seems like the makings of a good gift. But, in the end, it's all used to catch the actual gift.

The girl is a little messy, and so is the artwork, but in a way that feels quite appropriate. I think the artwork will keep a child's attention far more than the story or your actual reading voice!

I'm still not impressed enough to advocate for immediate purchase, however. Give it a try from the library and decide on spending money after. Though if you find it in a used book pile, snatch it up!

I really liked this one! I loved the story and the drawings and the little word that was created, I feel like I could live there! I hope she writes more with this character and this cute little town!

A sweet, feel-good story that's slightly off-kilter. Books that have been translated will always have subtle cultural cues that non-native speakers will miss as a result of the translation, but the sweet spirit of little Eddie shines through in her search to find her mother the perfect fluffy little squishy birthday present.

AAAHHH I don't care that the story is imperfect (it basically is. You just need some imagination), this book is SO DELIGHTFUL I can't. Not sorry for keyboard screaming.

Awesome things about this book
- French fashion, even on a five-and-a-half year-old
- Hot pink accents
- Whimsical French town
- Coin-operated fountain of delights
- Trash collectors with secret hobbies
- Shops
- Fluffy Little Squishy
- The typeface
- Collage, color pencils, and crayon mediums

A very deserving award-winning little gem.

Five stars on account of the gorgeous, vivid artwork on this one. These are the kind of visuals that charm, entertain, and make an lasting impression all on their own. The offbeat story is amusing, though I thought the language (translated from the original French) paled a little in comparison with the fabulous artwork.
