Emotional Rollercoaster - Well Worth It

This book series wrecked me in the best way. It has taken me 2.5 years to recover, and only now am I emotionally capable of writing a review. I am not joking.

A message I sent my friend Kristen in May of 2019 – “Oh God I'm still having like mini panic attacks wondering if Jamie and Remy are going to be ok.”

I also described this book to Kristen in such detail and with such emotion that, even though she didn’t read the books, she identified the song “If You're Not The One” by Daniel Bedingfield as Jamie’s song, and she was spot on. I proceeded to play this song on repeat for weeks, sobbing.

Book 1 starts out strong. Jamie and Remy go undercover to investigate a human trafficking ring. Lying to people in order to go under cover is rough. Human trafficking is terrible and upsetting.

However, there is clear attraction between them that is hot and explosive. Remy sometimes is extremely sweet despite his gruff exterior, and is such a protector. Also, their work matters.

But Remy is not ok, and Jamie, though delightful, is naïve in many ways.

Do not expect a HEA. Do expect to feel all of the emotions.

I immediately purchased book 2 upon completing book 1 because it was that good and I HAD to know more.

A novel that has a deeply disturbing theme (child prostitution rings) handled very well. Whilst the kidnap and sale of the boys is going on, it is not the focus of the book but is there enough to make uncomfortable thoughts.
Jamie and Remy are two detectives who individually pick up on something more than just their own disappeareds and beome part of an Interpol task force. I like their interractions, especially Remy who obviously has some major demons of his own. Jamie was a bit confusing, came over as both tough and soft & whiny at the same time so unusually for a British character, I ddn't get him too much.
The ending is a bit of a 'No' but to be honest, anything else wouldnt have felt right. There are further books in the series so no doubt Jamie and Remy will be back again.

A mixture of m/m romance and law and order SUV. I loved and hated the relationship that formed between the two men. The hatred and passion between the two of them was great.

Personal rating: 3.5

It had a good premise but kind of blundered through the investigation process and some parts were way too predictable.
