Very few authors could entice me to read a graphic novel because it's not my usual fare, but I was surprised by how much I enjoyed this book. Shannon Hale (and I suppose her husband gets some credit) has a great sense-of-humor.

Rapunzel has grown up in Mother Gothel's villa knowing that something is off. One day, she finally realizes that the oasis she has grown up in is surrounded by magical desert (where nothing will grow). She confronts Mother Gothel, and is banished to a tower. There, she learns how to fight, escapes, and journeys back to the villa to defeat Mother Gothel.

A twist on the classic Rapunzel...this story has elements of wild west adventure and romance as well as an awesome leading lady.

Big fan of fairytale retellings, especially when they’re done well. I like the western fantasy setting, and I like how Jack never tried to be the leader or downplay Rapunzel’s power. I love a supportive love interest.

This was my childhood. It taught me how epic girls can be, that I love retellings of fairy tales, and what hair could do!

This is a wild west style of Rapunzel that closely follows the original tale.

A lively, lovely mashup of several different fairy tales, with an excellent female lead and a hint of romance. The story is fun and inventive, and the artwork is lovely. What more could you want out of a graphic novel fairy tale retelling?

Loved the different faces! Fun story with lots of opportunities for women and people of color to have main, supporting, and background roles. I've never seen such a naturally inclusive illustrated book before.

The idea for this story was interesting enough, but there just wasn't enough to really keep me engaged. I thought it was just okay in just about every aspect. The artwork, the plot, everything was good enough, but it was nothing exceptional.

The different take on Rapunzel was fun, and a good, empowering story for young girls. I think a lot of times with graphic novels, it really just depends on my mood. I've got to be in the right mood for them, and the current reading slump I'm going through is not it. I think this would definitely be a fun graphic novel for young girls, fans of fairy tales, and graphic novel lovers.

This was my first ever graphic novel a format, I must admit, that does not appeal to me. I only read this one when I saw that Shannon Hale was the author. Unfortunately, that was not enough. It was definitely not enjoyable for me. It is stressful enough to read a book that jumps from one challenging situation to another, but to see the ugly truth in the graphic novel added nothing and detracted greatly to my enjoyment. I definitely like to see things in my mind's eye.

Fun retelling of the Rapunzel story, set in a magical Western mining town. Rapunzel is a spunky fighter who has help, but no need of rescue.
