For this installment of The Wedding Date series, I found myself taking it a bit slower. I've been in the mood for light reads recently, and these books came at just the right time for me. As I've noted in the reviews for the first and second books of the series, I do wish there was more character development. More explanation into why they fear love or sharing their emotions (which is hard in of itself, but I just crave more of a background story). The fact they all fear love and can't admit to wanting more is starting to get a bit repetitive, but I do understand that it's probably realistic as well. It's hard to spill your true feelings when you're filling your head with doubts and second thoughts.

I enjoyed Maddie and Theo's story a lot, especially because it was sort of an enemies-to-lovers trope. I felt like, so far, this was the book with some higher stakes (like I mentioned wishing more of in the previous books). Not only do they both want to keep things light and out of relationship territory, but there's also the added edge of keeping things a secret. This just made it a bit more interesting. Although, the fact that everyone knew anyway (which was bound to happen since they were so transparent about their secrecy) made that part fall a bit flat. It made me question what the point of the secrecy even was, which was a major thread holding their whole agreement together.

I liked that there was a focus on Maddie's job as a personal stylist and the conversation around how it is perceived by others. I found this to be an important mention because there is a tendency in society to judge others for things they 1) do not understand, 2) find insignificant or frivolous, and 3) just want to feel superior over. So, I really liked that Guillory made sure to talk about how people (including Theo) pass judgment on things they think are dumb or unimportant.

Since this was the third book, it was a lot of fun to have previous characters be present and very involved. I loved that a major plot point centered around Alexa and Drew's wedding.

I'm starting on the fourth book, Royal Holiday, which I'm excited for because it revolves around Maddie's mom Vivian. And, I love royal-related plots.

While it was a fun return to the characters in the series, this one felt a bit repetitive and not the most compatible pair.

Sweet

3.5 stars. Pretty sweet love story. Very quick read, and a great set of diverse characters. I particularly love how this author showcases black joy- something that’s hard to come by in a typical romance novel.

Another absolutely delightful book by Jasmine Guillory! This one was a bit steamier and more romantically suspenseful at times and just as much a page-turner as the first two. I can’t wait to get the 4th book!
