Another good one.

The impending birth has to go well, of course, and we need Peter for the next book, so we know he'll get through it - but I like the way this one once again makes him realize that as you grow up, your challenges get more numerous, more important, and sometimes force you to decide what you will be - perhaps whether you want it or not.

As always, we get "Me and Seawoll went ..." from a guy whose English is otherwise flawless, and indeed one wonders why he doesn't at least "ax" questions. But I do enjoy how each book reveals that Peter has once again soaked up some quite thorough knowledge of art or history or whatever.

Beverley's family was great fun, and I guess we're in for a few more books of wondering what Lesley wants. Would have liked to see Abigail moved forward a few squares. The foxes are getting better and better. And Danni's going to be good.

I especially like the way one character has evolved into Uncle Seawoll.

Nightingale has become the most criminally underutilized character in these books; it drives me insane.

Altogether satisfying, though I will admit this is largely due to my investment in all the characters through all the previous novels. I think this one, plot-wise, was a little thinner than previous books, but it is still a page turner. It does make you want the next book dearly though.
