The beginning of SHAW is so emotional with both Shaw and Claudia holding onto the thought of reuniting in order to get through the hard times. They've bickered and teased since the beginning and only now, when the chance might be lost, do they realize what they have could be real.

I loved the strength in both Claudia and Shaw and how they learn to lean on each other. Claudia doesn't trust many men since her ex-husband cheated on her so she has no desire to test her feelings with Shaw. But after being captured, Claudia realizes she has some regrets and that includes never taking a chance with the one person who matters the most. Shaw has always been a charmer, but now we got to see his softer, sweeter side as he fights to get Claudia to believe a relationship can be real between them. While previous books have shown Shaw to be a bit of a player who only wants a good time he doesn't hesitate to share his emotions to Claudia and to go all in.

I also liked the new development of Selena and can't wait to see who she'll fall in love with. There were also a lot more of the berserkers in this one and now I really want to read their books!

Content Warning: Claudia is kidnapped and held captive and abused

I dislike Shaw, but the story was fantastic

I’ve read this story before, but had a really hard time starting it again. I seriously dislike players, man who res, men who can’t keep it in their pants. Though the story itself was great, I still dislike Shaw and would be uncomfortable knowing that most the women I talk to have effed my man. Besides my dislike of Shaw himself, the story was awesome. It had so many unexpected surprises, unique characters, and way more than enough action to keep me flipping the pages. Great story.

Obviously it's a risk to hype things up in your brain before experiencing them... but this book was wonderful and lived up to my expectations. I loved Shaw and Claudia together and I fully expect to reread this in the near future when I need a pick-me-up. The villain was particularly sinister and the surprising introduction of Selena was unexpected but promises interesting things for the future of the series. Just what I needed in the midst of a tough week, Anna Hackett does it again.

Finally Shaw and Claudia’s story. These two have been butting heads since the beginning of the series. Lots of snark, lots of quips, but also there when they need each other. In the last book, Claudia was taken by aliens leaving Shaw raging. It’s now a week later and she’s still missing. Shaw is a wreck.

The layers are peeled back - past with hurt, betrayal stand in their way. But while they try to stay away, once Claudia is back things are not the same. The tension is higher, their feelings coming to the forefront. Feelings their teammates had seen that they couldn’t acknowledge. There’s a sweetness to their relationship despite the joking. It’s good seeing the team all in loving relationships. Now it’s the General’s turn.

Action, battles with aliens, love, loyalty, survival- this series is what you want in a sci-fi romance.

Disclaimer: while I know the author personally, this doesn’t affect the star rating.
