Surprised by how much I enjoyed this. Reminded me of Ready Player One

Enjoyed more than expected

This book starts out extremely depressing and scary—accurately portraying the main character's mindset. It created more realism for me, and drew me in. I am excited to see Sophia's gambit, and it's pretty mind blowing. I'm not surprised at all about the greasy palms.

A great opener to a series, the world setting and building is vibrant with a lot of potential and foreshadowing. The main charcter has the right kind of apprehension about events and his future but a good set of wits and common sense to guide them forward.

Brain candy. Fun. I got caught up in the story. Not immortal literature, but a great adventure. Looking forward to following the rest of the series.

This book came highly recommended as an introduction to LitRPG. I struggled to finish it, the writing felt like fan fiction and seemed much more suited to a younger audience if it weren't for the gory descriptions.
My biggest issue was that there wasn't a story, at least nothing that was clearly carved out. Just a few quests that apparently connect and boss battles to keep up the momentum.

My only positive is that the action scenes were written fairly well, showcasing the author's strength. But everything else was lacking. The characters were one-dimensional, the monsters weren't very unique. Overall there was nothing unique at all, there was nothing to grasp me and pull me in to finish the series. The only reason I finished this story was because I don't like quitting on books, especially if they're quick reads.

I would also like to point out this book ends very abruptly which took me by surprise, although I was kind of glad as I didn't want to read it anymore, anyway.

Honestly... It's not great writing. I just realized that it was only good because it was one of the first litrpgs I read. Don't really recommend but I'll read it to finish the series

Decent start to a series. The levelling is a bit weird, but the book is fast paced and the world easy to get into. It lacks surprises.

So so good! I'm quite loving the litrpg genre and this book is definitely on the top of the list!
