ALEX IS BACK! I couldn’t decide whether to laugh or cry when I found out that I had MISSED the release date by months. Nobody told me!!! *sadness*
I couldn’t stop turning the pages, up to and beyond the point of potentially missing out on Very Important Things like creating cherished memories and … sleep.
The only strange (not bad, but strange) thing about the reading experience was that at least two major plot lines were extremely similar to the TV show. I don’t want to speculate, but it feels like they were taken directly from the TV show and placed into the book.
Please understand: The TV show is my absolute favourite and it’s by far the best book to screen adaptation I have ever had the honour of witnessing.
However, the two universes should have been kept apart. The “book” versions of the characters and world and the “TV” versions are quite different. In Nightshade Revenge, they got mixed up in such a way that I couldn’t keep Season 2 and this book apart in my mind. Truly new and original scenes were jarringly put next to “already seen before” scenes.
I wished that Alex had more genuine interactions with Tom, which were unfortunately kept quite short. In fact, the relationship between Freddy and Alex was far more developed than the relationship with Tom. Tom also made two big mistakes throughout the story that weren’t addressed.
Apart from these minor setbacks, it was a thrilling adventure. I cried at least once, if not several times. Keep them coming! I hope dearly that it’s not the last Alex Rider book or story. I do so hope for more seasons of the TV show. I will NEVER get enough.
