This is probably the book where Valkyrie and the rest of the cast feel the most mortal, which is impressive. I genuinely worried that they could die, and the set up right at the start that said she was going to lose someone she cared about... the series has always had stakes, and never ceded to plot armour, but I really felt it this time.

THIS is a skulduggery pleasant book. characters were on point, the plot was intriguing and had me second guessing everything the whole time… insanity, more of this please. i will say i found it a bit difficult to keep track of the lore at times but that can be put down to having not read the rest of the series in a number of years.
anywho, despite feeling like i’ve been gutted like a fish, i had a great time reading this one, more so than recent SP books of late. hooray!
