Very confusing book. The book feels like incoherent thought.

'Pain was the chorus of her song' A captivating but heartbreaking read. It reads like a dark beautiful dream. The prose and illustration are poetic and packed with metaphors which ones unpacks as they go through the novel. A recommended read.

The story feels detached and in fragments. It is most akin to small slices of life stories from someone that isn't happy with their life than a full, cohesive story. They are related to each other, and you can read between the lines to know what's happening around her, but expecting this story to be adventurous and intense is wrong. I didn't know what to expect reading it, as I added it to my list to read over a year ago, but I still enjoyed it. Each chapter is a short slice of her life, with one small event among many, that shows her slowly healing after a traumatic event.

idk what to think of this, at one hand i barely understood anything without the analysis on the internet, yet there were moments that caught my eye and awed me. it is one of a kind, I've never read a book like this and at the end it says "to be continued"... and it's been 13 years,,,, WHERE IS IT?
but anyway, it was a quick read that was also fun and incredible, with its exploration of various themes and the narrative voice, i understand why this book might stand out to so many people

If you pick up this book prepare for a sad story. I didn’t cry but it was a journey filed with pain from the main character and everyone around her. I had to read this book for a college class and found it to be another sad queer story centered around queer pain. If that’s what you want, great but the story felt too heavy for what it was. The images and art were very good and it was good to analyze.

Witty, gritty and absolutely brilliant! If a young reader hadnt recommended this book to me every time we talked about books that challenged our perceptions of feminism, mental health and identity, I wouldn't have even known to buy and read this book.

Author and illustrator uses her sharp pencil based drawings I think to discuss serious subjects like suicide, death, love, sexuality and mental health, while describing Kari's journey through the smoky and bursting with life - Mumbai.

Now even I will be recommending this graphic novel to anyone I talk to books about :)
