I DNF'd this book after about 100 pages. It was for my book club and I was excited to dive in for my book club "assignment," ready to try something that I wouldn't normally have chosen for myself, but I was so annoyed and disappointed by the time I shut the book and walked away. And as some friends have reminded me over the years: too many books and life is so short. So, this one will go back to the library unfinished.

I read some other reviews after I gave up on it, and found that my thoughts weren't way off. This book, while it really wants to make a lot of statements and to have a sweet, sisterly plot, just falls short in so many ways. It glosses over so many things-- historical events, emotions, and feelings -- that it could have just left out. And maybe if the point of view had been 3rd person instead, it would have been more interesting. I didn't feel like I needed to read the rest of it to get the gist of what was going on.

2.5 stars would actually be fair because it's not terribly written, by any stretch. Just not for me, and just not captivating/exciting.

This was a nice, breezy books about three of my favorite things: friendship, books, and writing. The differences among the women who gather in the park to write only heightens the connections between them, and it is a simple saga of their friendship through time which is marked by historical events and how the women are affected by them.

I would consider this more of a summer/pool/beach read, and overall, I enjoyed it. Oh, it also makes a good bedtime book because the plot isn't complex (although I did confuse characters at times!)

Not a bad book, but nothing special. I hate giving twos, however it wasn't amazing it was just okay. The book is about 5 women that meet each other in California and became friends. They eventually learn about each other and deal with some serious issues during a time that much change was happening around them.

It was fine.

Like other reviewers have said there are random extra details and tangents that don’t seem to really do anything for the story.

I also think it would’ve been better to have it told from the various characters perspectives.

It didn’t have much depth for some pretty heavy topics, which was kind of nice. It makes it a quick and easy read, but also leaves a few things… slightly unfinished?

Didn’t love it. Didn’t hate it.
Solid “K”.

This book was a fast read. I liked the blending of life with known events in the late 60's and early 70's. However, it left me feeling weird and unsatisfied. I am still trying to figure out why.

At first they were just mothers who happened to meet in the park where they took their children to play. But after bonding over--of all things--the Miss America Pageant they end up forming a writing group together. Through the years of momentous world events like the moon landing, and momentous personal events like births and divorces, they continue to write, forming a sisterhood and also a means to personal and professional success. [return]This feel good novel about the bonds of womanly friendship is memorable for the scenes the author creates. From a funeral parlor to the set of the Johnny Carson show she puts these ladies in some pretty unforgettable situations. I definitely recommend it to fans of books about the experience of being a woman and the power of friendships in our lives.

5 Women are all struggling with their lives and the labels/ expectations that are placed upon them. They develop a close friendship each doing their best to help the others and themselves. It was sweet and easy to read with a predictable ending.

I wish we could give half stars. I would have given 3.5. What I liked about this book was how honest the women were with each other and how their relationships grew through that honesty. It was also interesting the way the reader got a history lesson on how people thought/reacted in the 50s and how the world changed.

Couldn't put this one down. I wish I had such a group of "Wednesday Sister" friends!
