3.5 stars overall. Super fun narrator, but the back and forth, slow burn nature (and Tom during the final climax) was not to my taste.

Couldn't really get into the book. Too much unrequited whinging that could have been resolved if people just talked to each other.

This is probably a 3 1/2 star for me, but I've topped it to 4 stars for good reads.

First off, I think its important to say this is a completely different to The Hating Game, I know it will be hard for the author to keep this book out of THG's shadow. While Lucy from THG is sweet and quirky, Darcy is snarky and rough around the edges. The books definitely have different overall 'feels', for some reason I feel like THG is whimsical, 99% has more hallmarks of a typical romance.

SpoilerAn example of what I mean for 'typical romance' is the fact that sometimes Darcy can't seem to control whats coming from her mouth - eg the "get in me" incident. The 'whoops, it slipped' defense doesn't lend itself to reality so it sort of pulls you out of the narrative. Obviously, this is fiction, I get it. But some of those moments make the overall story more unbelievable.

The sexual tension is definitely present throughout. I think some of the characters needed a little work though.
SpoilerJamie, for example, is painted a a huge douche canoe through a majority of the book but in the end he's a cool dude? Maybe it has more to do with Darcy as narrator (post their huge fight) than anything else.
Her narration is fun and sassy, even if she didn't pick up the hints that were being thrown at her. Tom Valeska is yummy and a delightful person. Old doggo Patty was a great addition to the cast. As per usual, there was a large portion of communication breakdown and misunderstanding to create tension. Reminded me of a few Christina Lauren books in that way - but that could be more illustrative of romance in general.

The book was fun and flirty, just don't expect another Lucy! Darcy is a hard bitch.

DAMN, this had some chemistry. It was a bit uneven in spots, not perfect, but I really love this author. Genuinely smart, funny, steamy reads are a rare find.

DNF at 70%
Took me too long(several months) to drop it.

I liked the Hating game for the banter, but the banter in this one was just frustrating in a boring way.
A lot of the dialogue was just cringe and not even in a silly way. I did not like either of the characters and I felt like they were horrible together.
I DNF the moment man called her a self-peeling banana

I loved The Hating Game, so I was really curious to read this new book by Sally Thorne. However, I didn't enjoy it. I couldn't see the chemistry between Darcy and Tom, and I didn't like the relationship Darcy had with her twin brother, Jamie. He was cute rude and abusive toward her, and Darcy just accepted it.
