This book tested my levels of fear on every level known to man.
There are so many content warnings, go gentle. In light of what is happening right now in Australia and the conversations surrounding violence against women, this book feels super close to home.

I was scared! I will subconsciously go about my day more cautiously. The world we currently live in is scary & things that occur in this book are happening right now. 🤢🤮 Stress, nausea, paranoia, anxiety are all at a high from start to end. The book overall was simple to read, even as the plot becomes more complex. I was guessing incorrectly from the get go and found myself skimming over some of the gruesome bits.

If you’re into psychological (& Aussie) thrillers, get into this.

The scenes including Cynthia, the mother, were executed with such accurate representation of the person Cynthia is. I have the unfortunate pleasure of knowing a Cynthia in this life. 😂

This was a terrifying read - not because of imagined situations that could only happen in a book, but because of real situations that have happened.  I was gripped right from the start with Reagan’s paranoia set to high, and that’s before she finds a mutilated corpse near her home.  As the story progresses we see why Reagan is the way she is, and what is causing her to feel like she’s being watched.

This was deceptively easy to read - I promised myself I would only read a few chapters, and the next time I looked up I was over a quarter of the way through.  Reagan’s paranoia & distrust of everyone really ramps up the tension in the first half of the book, and then the second half is downright terrifying.  It’s compulsive, creepy and absolutely disturbing, and so worth the read!

This book has so many trigger warnings, so read with caution.

I've never read a book that made me feel physically sick before, but this one took my discomfort to a whole new level. The thing that made this so horrifying is the fact that the story highlighted the disgusting and twisted views of people who actually live in our society. I love Australian thrillers, but this one felt far too close to home.

Books like this reinforce why I am afraid, and rightly so, of men. Catch me deleting every social media account I have and communicating exclusively via carrier pigeon from now on. Cyber violence is some spooky shit.
