Hey, folks, this book was never trying to be the Great American Novel. It's a quick read based on a fun idea, delivered competently in the required way, which is to take the one impossible thing and then proceed logically from it. The invented stuff is blended reasonably smoothly with the real. The book gets acceptably close to, "no, of course it's not true - but it might have been."

Enjoyable, and a nice, easy read, but more slight than I was expecting. The cultural worldbuilding seemed to have a lot more going for it than the characterisation.

Not bad, not good, just incredibly mid. The premise is the type of thing that you either deliver on or you don’t and this one just doesn’t cut it. I see the idea behind the historical writing style, but it doesn’t do any favors. The lore could be interesting but it really isn’t focusing on the conspiracy or nature of vampires proper to make it more grounded. But yeah I didn’t hate it. It was very easy to finish at get through oddly enough.

This was, perhaps, one of the most interesting books I have read in a long time.

Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter. Just saying that out loud sounds strange, but actually reading it provides a lot of honesty and is written in such a way that you believe the words that are written there.

There is real feeling in how Lincoln reacts to every situation he is put in. You can feel how he feels when he learns that his mother's death was caused by a vampire. You can feel his rage when he starts training to become one of the greatest vampire hunters of all time. You even feel his conflict when faced with a vampire that makes him question his original outlook for vampires.

It is really well written and honest. While it doesn't have the humor that Pride and Prejudice and Zombies might have had, it still is written and read like one would expect a biography of events to be written.

I really enjoyed reading this book.

So, this was entertaining. Seth Grahame-Smith also wrote Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, which was also enjoyable. It wasn't something I would have rushed out to purchase or read but kept my attention while I was reading it, so that's good.

The bottom line in this is that Abe really isn't in it to get rid of slavery, he realizes that the slave owners are more than not, zombies who are out to kill their slaves by turning them into dinner (or a drink). He learns to be quite the fierce hunter and has some mad ax handling skills. (Those parts were actually pretty cool.)

I wish I could say more, but it seemed predictable at times and was just sort of an okay read for me.

I was super-excited about this new book from the author of "Pride and Prejudice and Zombies," and it did not disappoint. It reminds of me P&P&Z in that at first it seems totally random--Abe Lincoln and vampires?!? uh, okay--but as you read, it actually starts to make sense. The vampire element is so seamlessly weaved into the story of Lincoln's life that it doesn't seem random at all by the time you reach the end. And, of course, it's so ridiculous that it's funny. Love it!
