For me, this was just okay. I never really connected with either MC. My first impression of Dario was the same as Philippe's. And I just never got it out of my mind. I could reconcile his character with the image of him that grabbed me. The two of them together just didn't make sense to me. Maybe part of the problem was that it was all in Philippe's POV. I couldn't get into Dario's head so my only view of him was through Philippe and that one was not very confident or secure.

I was glad to be done with this story. Had it not been for a challenge, I'm not sure I would have finished it. My favorite character was the 4 year old Tommy!

Author Mia Kerick delves deeply into the idea of loss and its resulting effects on the mind of children when she takes on the character of Phillipe Bergeron. With his mother’s death at the age of ten, he withdraws inside himself, becoming suicidal and finally, simply shutting down all emotions that may lead him to love another person so completely ever again. His young mind will set the stage for a future that requires him to hide away, never engaging his heart in such a way that would allow him to let another person really see him or love him. Phillipe’s misguided belief that his remaining apart from his family and never entertaining intimacy with another man beyond mutual getting off, lands him in a solitary life, devoid of friends, and alone.

3.5 stars

all in all it was a great book, and i was really torn between giving it 3 or 4 stars but in the end there was something lacking. my problems was with dario's character, he was just flat, there wasn't enough background on him to fully understand his action in the book especially in the start of the relationship between him and phil. i couldn't understand where his interest in phil stemmed from, and how phil got from being a pesky visitor in dario's studio to a man that dario was very much in awe of, i guess that's why i didn't really feel real love and connection between the two mc's, i found my self wishing the author showed some parts from dario's pov to get a better understanding of him and his feelings for phil.
