And yet another great story in a great series.

A very grisly case from the beginning, with characters who are utterly despicable as victims of the crimes and a not very likeable one as Jimmy's client, are at the core of the story.

But there is also Mickey Dean, who has come back to Hell's kitchen and who is messing with Jimmy's family, and bringing the past back.

We see a lot more of Jimmy's family in this book, and we learn a couple of things that might have some relevance into his father's death. Maggie has a bigger, more relevant role in this book, and that scene at the family dinner? About the empty chair, Joseph McSwain's chair? That's a telling moment.
Jimmy, I think it’s time…take your place.”
The time of closure is coming.

And, of course, there is Steven Wang, offering Jimmy security and comfort and a chance at love. But Frank Frisano is still very present in Jimmy's mind and maybe even in his heart.

All the books in this series are character-driven, but I felt Jimmy's emotions more than ever in this one. He's such a great character, with great complexity and deeply layered. He's not perfect, but he's perfectly human and no matter what he wants to believe, he's vulnerable.

Time for the next book!

I enjoyed this fourth book in the series and Joel Leslie’s performance of it enhances the story.

Jimmy continues to look into his father’s cold case, and two new cases end up on his plate. In one case he’s hired as a bodyguard and in the other he’s helping his family after a family member is attacked. As is usual with these books, cases and themes tie together and there are lots of surprises and red herrings.

There are also romance issues for Jimmy as he and Frank have been on the outs since the last book and now he meets someone new.

The story is compelling and completely held my interest. I was cursing the fact there is no ebook available as I hated having to stop the story when I was no longer in a position to listen to the audiobook. I am really enjoying the story and was happy to read that the author is planning to add to the series soon.

Want Jimmy to get some happy - and I want it with Frank so didn't warm to Steven. Kept thinking there was more to him than just being a guy wanting to have a relationship with Jimmy.
SpoilerBut that first declaration, all set to chase Jimmy off and way too soon anyway! But sad if Steven is so starved for affection that he showed his hand too soon.

I liked the interweaving of numerous plots and, sadly, family in this one.
I liked this one the best of the series yet, we are definitely getting closer to solving Forever Haunt - hoping for the next book as I don't think i can stand the tension of it going longer.
The bloody murders of the 'society' gents were gruesome and certainly I was misled along with Jimmy. But again, I felt sad for the culprit, for the history that had culminated in the murders.
The Forever Haunt plot just got more intriguing and involved, as well as getting too close to home again. The Dean's become bigger characters with possibly much more involvement in Joey's murder.
And there maybe hope ahead for Jimmy and Frank.
Too keen for the next book!
