I seriously laughed out loud. Just when I think this is going to have a wholesome "golden rule" theme, it whips around and slaps you with the truth. Hilarious and informative without sugar-coating the facts of life.

During a visit to my local independent children's bookstore, I was handed this book to read! So funny! The illustration are fantastic, giving the shark, lion and wolf human characteristics. These carnivores are feeling left out and misunderstood! The shark isn't going on a "feeding frenzy" he is just a fast eater! ;) The animals seek out the wise owl for help with their problem, and the advice is perfect!
This is a book that would fit well in a science class during a discussion of animals and the food chain. But its main purpose is definitely to entertain, and I laughed out loud while reading it! Pick up this book at your library or independent bookstore!

Hilarious! Saw this at a museum gift shop, and my sister and I giggled the whole way through it. Immediately bought it for my niece (who is too young for this, but it's good to have it in her library for the future).

This book is a hoot! So clever in every way. I would love to have kids add an animal or too, complete with disguises and slogans; they probably wouldn't match the brilliance of Reynolds, but it would definitely stretch their thinking.

"But even savage carnivores get their feelings hurt". The poor lion...."all the gazelles whisper behind his back. The wildebeests call him bad kitty just because he's eaten half the neighborhood". The movies don't help the shark. And the timber wolf doesn't always eats little girls. They try everything to be liked even become vegetarians but they are hungry but it doesn't work. They ask the wise old owl but that doesn't go well. Read the book and find out what happens. It's great.

It's not often I consider calling a picture book "ballsy." But in a neck-and-neck life-or-death race with "delightful" to describe this book, I think "ballsy" makes it to the finish line first. And then wheels around to devour "delightful" with mad gnashing glee. I think we'll have steak for dinner.
