I got this for free through the Audible Originals program. The actors did a fine job in this full-cast audiodrama, and I think the music and sound effects successfully created the atmosphere that the producers were hoping to achieve. The production quality was so good that it kept me from bailing on an otherwise mediocre story. I wanted to like this, but I just feel like once you've seen the first two Alien films, everything else set in that story/universe is just a lackluster retread. Strangely, this (extra?) chapter of the Alien story deals with what happened to Ellen Ripley between the events of the first two films (yeah - if you know your Alien-lore, then you'll likely do a double-take at this, just as I did... No spoilers here, but they make it make sense in it's own way), yet it fails to really add much of anything significant to the canon.

This was a fine distraction for a couple hours while I went about some other tasks, but it's far from gripping. Glad I didn't pay full price for it. I keep wanting and hoping to find some new(er) content set in the Alien/Predator mythos that strikes that perfect balance between familiarity and originality, telling a fresh story that doesn't just follow all the same plot points we've already seen. I feel like I got suckered into something that wasn't really that great - which is usually the case when I dip my toes into anything Alien or Predator related in recent years.

I love the Alien universe so much, but this did not do it for me. It was interesting, but mostly boring. I didn't know how I would feel about Ripley being in it at first, but was open to it. I don't know, I didn't care for it. She didn't feel shoehorned in, but she didn't feel like Ripley to me either. I'm going to read the reviews for the next books to see where the story goes, but definitely not reading any more.

I didn't think I would enjoy it, but tonally and direction and acting-wise it's full-on Alien and I would recommend to anyone who enjoys the franchise.

The sci fi genre lends itself excellently to audio drama. What a fun alien story.

I honestly can't believe I'm rating this book this highly. I listened to the full audio cast version on Audible and had a complete blast. Whoever hired the voice actress that sounds like Sigourney Weaver needs a bonus check because she was dead on. The atmosphere noises and sound effects added to the experience as well. I have no experience with this title in a physical format, but I can't recommend the audio drama version enough.

Very fun listen. Felt like listening to an Alien movie, lots of good sound effects, pretty good acting, and intense scenes. Nice way to pass a few hours of reporting.
