I feel like my eyes should be burning from some of the things I just read.

Loved the world building in this and the concepts of the magic and abilities. The characters were well thought out in each POV and there were some interesting twists and turns. Very excited to ready book 2.

look dark academia as a concept and aesthetic is cool and all but holyshit does it spawn all these LOOK HOW FUCKING SMART I AM AND I CAN USE BIG WORDS-books
every single character is an insufferable prick
also don't tag this as lgbt when literally none of them read as queer to me, except for maybe Nico (and "the author confirmed it" bro if it isn't obvious from the text, then it doesn't fucking matter.) And no, I don't expect "spice" (it's the stupidest word on the planet and I blame booktok for thinking it's the only metric for a book to be judged) from something tagged as 'queer'. but when the only relationships and the only attractions shown are m/f, that doesn't read super queer to me. And a somewhat creepy threesome between two girls and a guy really isn't great bi rep for me. So bye, from a disappointed bisexual. 8)
if it's not in the text, then it fucking isn't text
really not the peak of queer dark academia here, every single main relationship is (and apparently continues to be) m/f
yawn yawnyawn
sure, i liked the premise and i am interested in some of their powers but not quite enough to suffer through the pseudointellectual pretentious secret history 2.0 (another one constantly hyped up as a masterpiece and i started it three times and never finished it)
i'm not gonna put a rating because i honestly just can't fucking tell, two stars I guess but I didn't even get halfway through. Maybe someday I'll try again.
