Kind of hard to get into, not written well since it puts science before the story. Even if I enjoy going deep in science, this just didnt do it for me. Ill watch the show instead.

Three body problem is a first contact alien story. We start off during the Chinese revolutionary period, then we move forward to “present day”, where scientists are unaliving themselves and 1 man tries to put together what’s happening through the use of a computer game. This was so intriguing, however there were some parts that I struggled with. This book really goes in depth behind the science of how things are done which did drag. I also didn’t connect with the characters, there was no emotional connection.

This title has been floating around in my peripherals for a while, but I was ignoring it for some reason. Not a good one, I just wasn’t looking for it. But then we watched the Netflix adaptation of it, and so I decided to go to the source material (or at least as close as I can get, not being able to read the original language it was written in).

I liked the novel of The Three-Body Problem, in a different way than the show, and actually think that watching the show first was helpful for me, a Western consumer. The Western TV adaptation is relatively faithful to the book, aside from the cast of really hot scientists who all want to sleep with each other, and it helped me understand the story going into the novel. The novel does a better job of introducing the Trisolarans and their motivations. Anyway, enjoyable, and I’ll be reading the others and staying tuned for the next season.

This book is brilliant. Its a great Sci fi novel that captures the hopelessness that accompanies being human. Everything seems awful for most people and beings. Thinking about that for too long can drive you to do crazy things....

Mild mild spoiler
********

Only complaint is Wang forgot he had a wife and child lmao (not a plot point, just the social reproduction of labour I think)
