This book is about nothing and everything at the same time. It is about an outcast of society trying to change herself to be the perfect person. But should she have to?

i dont wanna write too much cuz i went into it not knowing what it was about and had no idea where it was going and i loved that

huge side note but people that talk about this as if it were a comedy rub me the wrong way, i mean while it is funny at times i dont find it to be a story or character to laugh at? like this whole "quirky weird comedy book!" is weird i just dont understand how comedy is the only thing u take from this book but anyway

I'm not sure I always like these dark atypical POV books. I hate the silent weirdos who look out and judge others. Is this a book about the Japanese? About women? About neuroatypical minds? All three? Maybe, but not much more than that.

I think if someone is happy and thrives in their customer service job, leave them be!

This was a quirky lil read! Interesting way of demonstrating how society defines "normal", how we treat those who don't fit the mold, and finding purpose. Why must we conform? Why do we feel pressure to do so? Who, if anybody, do we aim to please by fitting into societal standards? (We really Live in A Society)

Furukura's narration made the themes, which felt heavy, a lot more lighthearted and humorous.
Furukura accepting her convenience store life and purpose at the end felt like a huge win that I enjoyed.
Overall, I liked the book and found it to be quite entertaining. Also was a breeze to get through!

Shiraha was despicable (I feel like this must have been an intentional choice though).

The essay from Murata at the end had me like :o
