A must read for anyone feeling the existential dread brought on by climate change. Tossing around ideas which are still relevant in 2023, 4 years from publishing, XR splits the book into two sections - stories about what is actually happening in the climate of the world right now, and hopeful essays on what we can do about it. We can no longer afford to do nothing. Everyone in the UK should read this at least once.

With all its different sections this is a truly inconsistent and sometimes incoherent and contradictory text. Some parts are excellent and others are deeply conservative masquerading as non-political or beyond politics.

ER think that HS2 (ELECTRIC TRAINS) is bad for the environment, yet they'll happily let £1bn+ of roads projects crack on without as much as a peep.

A fantastic, very needed call to action. Lays out why and how everyone can and must fight our current political and economic system to ensure our planet’s survival.
The vision of a potential future XR lays out here is bittersweet, but it is beautiful. It is one of community, love, connection to nature and ensuring equality of all. You might as well die for this cause, there’s a good chance you’ll die without it.

Important, horrifying, and ultimately hopeful.
This collection of essays very much preaches to the choir since those reading this book are probably already convinced of the cause or on their way towards being converted, but it does a good job of discussing the climate emergency and the actions needed to mitigate it. More science and statistics might be helpful, but this serves as a decent introduction to the issues.
