I wish I gave more time to reading this play so that I could really savor it. I tend to read plays quickly / in a rush before class so that I have something to model for play discussions but then I procrastinate it and it's a problem (just like my students lol...)

But because I do these for work, it means I also have things written up about them that I can copy into here and that I do think about the plays for a while after I read them.

This one is so good. I have so many staging questions and ideas and it would be so cool to be able to see it staged (or even production photos of how its been done, even just the set transitions would be fascinating).

This play feels very similar to Eurydice by Sarah Ruhl to me. It's beautiful and poetic and about grief, not related to death but to growing up and the grief of never being the same person you were again. The grief of change and of others not understanding you or your pain anymore.

Okay, now to just copy and past from the work document because I'm running out of time on my prep:
Major Ideas / Themes

  • Grief
  • Regret
  • Growing up / Staying young
  • Memory / Nostalgia
  • Impact of traumatic events on family
  • Interpersonal relationships, needing other people in different ways
  • Individual growth / strength  vs community growth / strength
  • Holding on to youth for better or for worse

Mini Summary
Aftereffects of Wendy (and Michael and John and the lost boys) returning from Neverland. Wendy is waiting for Peter to come back.

 Moment of TEAM
EMOTION: Conversation between Wendy and Slightly. These characters have both been hurt so much and they want and need different things from each other but end up only hurting each other more. Lots of Betrayal, Sadness, Frustration, Confusion, all wrapped up together.

I could make an entire playlist of Taylor Swift songs that explain how this play makes me feel.

Honorable mentions:
- Right Where You Left Me
- You All Over Me
- Haunted
- Perfectly Good Heart
- Cardigan
- Clean

(Dates read 3/7/23 - 3/9/23: this is a placeholder for STAY WITH ME AWHILE, which is a different play by different playwrights and not available here. ISBN 978-1-61959-206-3)
