This was the first book of the Okel Rel saga that I've read, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Having not begun at the beginning, there was a lot to pick up on but by the end I had a good grasp of the storie's universe. The sheer scope of the Okel Rel world is incredible - the amount of thought and detail that's gone into it is a little daunting, and Lynda Williams does a great job at explaining it. I did feel a little overwhelmed by the sheer volume of information to take in, but the vivid characters and absorbing plot kept me engaged and devouring the story at a rapid rate. You'll find yourself gripped, and seriously attached to the fates of the characters. As I understand it they are largely characters that run throughout the series, but I had no trouble relating to them (well, except Horth... Seriously, enough with the strong, silent type already!) The characters are fun, vibrant, and vividly described; they are fully formed and endlessly fun to read about (some more than others: Amel? Swooon).

I definitely recommend this book - I imagine if you've already read the others you are probably eagerly awaiting it, and despite my complete lack of knowledge prior to beginning the book, it was easy to follow and a great read. I'm definitely going back and reading the others now!
