This is probably a time when my own expectations hurt my reading of a book. I was looking forward to it because the movie (which I never finished) had terrified me as a child. It was a bit disappointing to see it was very much a Cold War story where, like like the zombies of The Walking Dead, the Triffids are just following their nature and acting with no malice compared to the evil of the human characters.

A great read! There have been film adaptations that have not done this book justice. I'm very glad to have read this book after 58 years of avoiding it.
