Wow. That was completely crazy. I might have liked it better if I had read the "previous" books recently. This was basically a not-sequel - it was definitely set starting before or during some of the other books. And this one was definitely not an approachable starting place. It was cool and weird. And having the protagonists be ridiculously genius overpowered nine year olds was just nutty. But a good fun read if twisty and a bit too long. 3.5 of 5.

The next book in the series this one is following two genius girls who are sisters to Tinker. It is set at the same time as the first two books and I suggest reading the short story Pittsburgh home and garden, as well, before reading this next installment.

Two super brilliant girls are about to have their world turned up side down. Not only are their parents not really their parents, but they have sisters and a brother that will be destroyed if they don't save them. This seems like a monumental task for two nine year olds. Hilarious ensues and lots of destruction, magic and evil princes.

My favourite scene is when they underestimate the lift of helium balloons in regard to their electronic pet. Meowing as it floated away.

This is a fantastic novel and visit Baen's website if you are like me and can't wait for new novels.

I was so excited to read this! The Elfhome series is one of my favorite escapes.I did enjoy this installment but I feel like it pales a bit compared to the awesomeness of Tinker.
While this is set in the same universe, the characters are new and very young (age 9). I feel like the author struggled a bit with their age. They start out sounding a very young and innocent 9, then start acting more like 18 year olds mid-way. I know, child geniuses, but there was a bit too much habdwaving on how brilliant they are, imo.
I look forward to the next book when I hope these kids meet up with the characters from book one.

I'm a fan of Wen Spencer, and I enjoyed her other books -- but I think a lot of this book doesn't make much sense without the context of the other books, and as much fun as it is to get to know the backstory with the twins, it's not a new story. It's more of a retelling from a different perspective, and I just wanted something different out of it.

This book has everything I love about Wen Spencer's work.

And kind of a lousy cover, but that's all she seems to get for this series, alas!

The characters are fun and smart, and the plot is an amazing rollercoaster/puzzle box, fitting seamlessly into the complex events we already saw from inside Elfhome yet giving new insights and extra emphasis to everything. Rereading was great.

This is a great installment in the Elfhome series. It took me a while at the beginning to place when the action was going on and who the players were (not the twins, but everyone else), but once it got going I really enjoyed it.
