For a final book, it has a great amount of action. Honestly . . . that was its only good point. I'll tag the rest with spoilers.

Spoiler First off, this series has always been riddled with drama. I mean, these kids are basically twelve- and thirteen-year-olds, so it's to be expected. But using forced anger as a means to create even more conflict? I hated that.

SpoilerI've always kind of had a mixed relationship with Em. She's strong, definitely, but she can also be really blind when it matters. Several times during this book, she seems to "put together" an answer, yet fails to tell everyone else about. It just kind of disappears. Furthermore, during the whole time, she has this relationship with Bishop, but she still doesn't know if she loves him more than O'Malley (who is, um, dead). Like, what? Girl, figure out what you want. (Honestly, she has no business being in a relationship, and I have no idea why there are all these guys who like her.)

Spoiler And then the ending, oh goodness. The biggest source of my issues with this story. I've always kind of shipped Em with Bishop since the end of the first book. O'Malley was kind of manipulative and then our new love interest to the third book, Victor, is a bit clingy and a jerk (I mean, poor Zubiri). But Bishop did everything right. When Em was a jerk to him and used him, he would always listen to her and try to be there for her. It even says in the book that he tried his hardest! And Em just dumps him like that! I mean, seriously? At this point, I'm kind of like, Bishop, you deserve someone much better than Em (Mattie now). So I'm kind of glad he got away from her. He should be much happier now, because he deserves more than she could ever give him. And then there's the creep Victor who follows Em around like a puppy and then makes this weird gesture at the end because he's been in love with her for the last few years? I mean, this is just too weird. First it was O'Malley, then it was Bishop, and now it's this random kid. So, I'm sorry, but Sigler kind of fails at the romance department in this series. Rant over.

This book felt really long for some reason. Not that it was boring in anyway but I kept feeling that the end of the story must be near and I wasn't even halfway through the book. Nevertheless I found this to be a good ending to the trilogy. There was quite a lot of different storylines going on throughout the narrative but all in all an exciting read with a surprise ending.

I admit to being disappointed by this final installment. It was still super creative and I thought the overarching plot was incredibly interesting, but there was too much time spent on expositing all the stuff from previous books and battle sequences. Also, I was secretly hoping we would get to see another same-sex couple since the other one only lasted about five pages, but it did not happen. The epilogue really frustrated me for personal, spoilery reasons that I won't go into.

We start Alone off with quite a bang. The division between the faction of the Birthday Children has led to an all-out war, ships are closing in from outer space, and Em and her friends are still trying to figure out how they are going to survive on Omeyocan. And the planet has some pretty big surprises for them.

Em has really grown as the trilogy progresses, and now we get to see her as a true leader that has the best interests of the people at hurt. We see her as a person hurt emotionally by betrayal and loss. We see her as a person learning to trust all over again. And this trust is going to be critical. As the ships move closer, she will have to learn to trust her instincts (and the instincts of those around her) to put the ancient city back together again and figure out just what is going on.

What's going on? Well, I can't tell you, but it was a big "what the hell" moment when it all came together. I never saw it coming. And Scott Sigler revealed all the bits and pieces of the puzzle perfectly. A unique creation that I haven't run across in science fiction before, it was nice to see an inventive plot twist turn out so well.

In the end, we have epic battles between aliens of all sorts, battles in space, people sacrificing themselves for all sorts of good (and sometimes not so good) reasons. This has been an epic series. I sort of hope he decides to keep going. I would love to see what space has in store for Em and the survivors of Omeyocan.

This book dragged. Too many battle scenes. Too long.

I really liked the trilogy, however it is just not my type of story. It is what it is, a dystopian teenage adventure filled with blood, violence, and angst. I forced myself to buy and read because I like Scott Sigler's work and all of his stories tie into the Siglerverse.

I loved this one. I struggled at first listening to it because the author chose to recast the reader which he explains at the beginning but she didn't listen to the ones before so a lot of the words and names are pronounced differently.

However I don't normally cry at books even when like I feel like I would or should but this one had be feeling all the feels.
